Cala Mitjana and Cala Sa Nau

Less than 2 miles from Cala d’Or, north of Cala Ferrera, we can anchor in Cala Mitjana and Cala Sa Nau. Like the previous ones, these coves are a very interesting anchorage near Cala d’Or. They are also very crowded during the day, but at night they also empty of boats and offer a very interesting refuge in a beautiful setting. Cala Mitjana, as it is not so open to the east, is usually a better refuge than Cala Sa Nau, which is smaller and more exposed.

Protect the Mediterranean posidonia

Always make sure to anchor on sand and never on Posidonia, as it is protected and anchoring on it is prohibited. Boats from the Ministry of the Environment patrol beaches and coves throughout Mallorca, ensuring that no boat anchors on Posidonia, sanctioning offenders if necessary.

In correct anchoring, both the anchor and the chain that rests on the bottom must rest on sand and never on algae. Anchoring on rocks is never advisable because your anchor and/or chain could easily get caught between the rocks, which could cause serious problems.

In addition, you should also know that the vast majority of anchorages are delimited by yellow buoys that separate the bathing area from the navigable and anchoring area. You should never exceed the buoy line when sailing or when anchoring with your boat.

At Mallorca Blue Sea we want to help inform and raise awareness among sailors of the importance of protecting oceanic posidonia.
